Jiangsu Offers Something for Each Season of the Year
When planning your trip to Jiangsu, you might want to consider the weather and seasons. Jiangsu, located in Yangtze River Delta, is under the influence of monsoons and has warm-temperate/semi-humid and subtropical/humid zones. The seasons have clear-cut changes and the frequent “plum” rains are between spring and summer. Typhoons accompanied with rainstorms usually happen in the late summer and early autumn. Traveling in Jiangsu, you can have great fun in each of the four seasons – the weather will not limit you! What’s more, there many places that can be visited year-round such as Han treasures in the Xuzhou Museum and Former Residence of Pearl Buck in Zhenjiang.

Suzhou Hanshan Temple: A place of Buddhism, Chinese history and culture as well as a charming winter story
 |
The Buddhist Hanshan Temple in Suzhou is not only a charming historic temple, but a place of deep cultural resonance for people not only in China, but throughout Asia and especially in Japan. As a result, if you want to experience the beautiful scenery shown in the famous poem composed by Zhang Ji, you should visit Hanshan Temple during winter time. |
| |
|
The temple was founded over 1,500 years ago, but owes it fame to a poem written in the Tang dynasty by Zhang Ji, a poet who traveled by boat through Suzhou. As his boat anchored in the canal near the temple one winter evening, the deep ringing of the temple bell in the winter darkness inspired him to write a poem which has become a classic throughout Asia:
"Moonfall. Crows cry in a sky full of frost. / Maple Bridge. Lamps of fishermen doze off in the gloom. Outside old Suzhou lies Hanshan Temple / At midnight, the sound of its bell reaches my boat."
The fame this poem brought to the temple has attracted many artists and intellectuals, who were inspired to write their own poems and calligraphy celebrating its charms. Today these classics are carved into stone and set into the temple's saffron walls, while inscribed stone monuments dot the courtyards and halls. The poem has also made the temple's bell quite famous, and even inspired a group of 17th century Japanese pirates to steal the bell and take it back to Japan. The current bell was donated by Japanese citizens in the early 20th century to apologize for the theft of the original. Swinging a great wooden log against the bell to ring it is one of the highlights of many tourists' visits to Hanshan Temple. Once struck, the deep, solemn toll of the bell echoes through the temple courtyards. |
What can you do in Jiangsu in the spring?
First, we strongly recommend you to visit Nantong in the southeast of Jiangsu. Spring is the most favorable season to visit Nantong, for the weather is neither hot nor cold. The river and sea waters, gardens and mountain landscapes make Nantong very charming in the spring. Nantong’s scenic spots include: the Hao River scenic area and the Langshan scenic area. |
 |
Nantong Xingdong Airport is about 18 kilometers (11 miles) northeast of Nantong downtown operating flights to Guangzhou, Beijing, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Dalian, Chengdu and many other cities. The new Su-Tong Yangtze River Bridge from Nantong to Suzhou and Shanghai makes it really easy to get to Nantong. Delicious food is abundant in Nantong. For example, Qingnian Zhong Road is perfect place to eat local delicacies. It also offers Guangdong (Cantonese) and Sichuan food, and has many tea bars and other eateries. |

|
During springtime, you should also visit the historic water towns in Jiangsu. In East China, especially Jiangnan (the southern areas of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River), spring is the best season to drink green tea, to taste fresh bamboo shoots, and to visit towns along the water. There are quite a few historic water towns in the south of Jiangsu and the north of Zhejiang. Tongli in Wujiang particularly stands out as one of the best-preserved water towns. It warrants a closer look as it is quieter than and not as crowded as other neighboring towns. |
Spending little money, one can enjoy the local specialties such as smoked fish and steamed meat buns. At the Nanyuan Teahouse, one can drink the fresh green tea served in clay pots. Though one day is quite enough for travelers to visit all of the scenic spots in Tongli, two days are certainly better as one can check into a privately-owned guesthouse usually in traditional old buildings and savor the peaceful atmosphere of the town at ease. |

Come and join the Yangshan Peach Blossom Festival in Wuxi during spring time!! Yangshan has been the famous land of juicy peaches (crowned as ¡°queen of fruits¡± and being well known for fine, delicious juice) for nearly 100 years. In march, the blossoming of peach trees all over the mountains and plains. Every year between late March and early April, when peach trees bloom, Yangshan Peach Blossom Festival is held. Visitors can appreciate peach blossoms, take a walk in the countryside in the spring and enjoy the country scenery.
Yangshan is 15 kilometers southwest to Wuxi, facing Taihu Lake in the south and bordering the Grand Canal in the north. It takes a merely 30 minutes’ drive from Wuxi city to Yangshan. |
Explore Nanjing during springtime and it will give you an unforgettable Jiangsu travel experience. Nanjing’s age-old reputation as one of the "three furnaces" of China in the summer is well-justified. However, Nanjing in spring will give you cooler and colorful experiences.
If possible, you should try to visit Nanjing during the spring from mid-April to late May. Although short (many residents claim if you blink, you'll miss it), the season's rain showers, sunshine and low humidity give the terrain a splash of green as well as putting brighter smiles on the faces of residents emerging from the harsh winter. |
What can you do in Jiangsu in the summer?

Jiangsu is hot in the summer, but there’s a host of “cool” things to do; even beach resorts at the seaside and at various lakes. For instance, Lianyungang is a popular tourist destination renowned for its beach side resorts. The coastal scenery is very special, with mountains side by side with the sea, making the city an ideal summer resort.
During the hot and humid summer, perhaps you cannot wait to take a bath in the cool sea. If you are traveling in Jiangsu province in summer time, we strongly recommend you visit the seaside resorts along the coastal areas of Lianyungang. You may find the best seaside-bathing pool on the Xilian Island. These seaside resorts are well equipped with tents, umbrellas and other beach resort facilities. Interesting activities such as the shell-searching and beachside BBQ are also available. What’s more, delicately-designed villas are built on the nearby mountains, where you may experience real coolness in summer. |
Moreover, if you want to work on your mind rather than your tan, there are some great educational travel programs in Jiangsu. No matter you are an adult or a student, we provide both teaching programs and summer camps for you.
Teaching at Kindergarten, Elementary School and Summer Camp In Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province, China
The International Exchange Centre of the Yucai Education Group at Yangzhou is currently seeking the native English teachers to fill teaching positions within its elementary school's English program.
Their Government Education Group is a body that incorporates three State owned and managed schools that comprise of the Yucai Primary School, The Yucai Experimental School and the International Cultural Exchange Learning Centre. All three educational campuses are State funded, Government owned facilities that are completely financed and supported by the Government's Education department. Education is the simple and ultimate goal in our three schools here in Yangzhou. We are not the biggest school-enterprise in China precisely because we are NOT an Enterprise; we are a School, a Government school whose priority is to educate our students as best as possible, firstly and lastly with no exceptions to the fact.
The school is currently extending the Super Tots and Super Kids' English program we have been teaching to our kindergarten and elementary grades-1, 2, 3 and 4 classes to cover all primary grades up to grade-6 and therefore we wish to assign 1 new foreign teacher to each grade. The Super Kids' program is a very well designed children's syllabus and boasts one of the most modern, well designed and functional text books used in China today. The program makes the blending of teaching oral conversation skills and structured written and phonetic skills a breeze, yet still allows the individuality of the teacher to express their own fun and creative freedom by using their own formatting and unique style, without feeling like they are off the Reservation in their teaching direction and student's language needs. Teachers will be given a class of 20 students (with a near-to-fluent English speaking Chinese assistant to help-out, no matter what grade level you are teaching) and this all makes for enjoyable, fun and rewarding quality teaching work as you develop an excellent rapport and bond with each of your kids, seeing their English grow and strengthen from your work. |

What can you do in Jiangsu in the autumn?
Nanjing Ming Xiaoling Tomb

We strongly recommend you to visit the Ming Xiaoling Tomb in Nanjing in the autumn. You will enjoy a beautiful scene of bright and natural fall colors, and a spectacular walk along a path through history.
The Ming Xiaoling Tomb in Nanjing is one of China's most important and
impressive historical sites, and its art, architecture, and grand scale have been drawing visitors for centuries. It recently received the honor of being listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.
Perhaps the most famous section of the tomb is the long avenue of statues just past the massive entrance hall. Called a "Spirit Way" in traditional Chinese architecture, it was designed so the influence of the spirit of the buried emperor could still be felt in the world, and to provide a grand ceremonial approach to the tomb. Great plane trees arch over the stone flagged path; while a remarkable menagerie of Ming Dynasty stone animals lines the path. They are arranged in pairs, one on each side of the path, facing each other. There are two pairs of each type of animal - one pair seated, and the other pair standing. The life-size stone statues show eight types of animals, ranging from lions and the mythical ki-rin unicorn to more modest horses and camels. Each animal was chosen for its symbolism; camels represented peace and trade with Central Asia; elephants reflected majesty; and the mythical animals were allegories of the emperor's justice and virtue. The walkway is especially beautiful in the autumn, when the leaves of the arching trees turn golden yellow, and the ancient gray statues are dotted with fallen leaves. |
